Edgewater City Council has embarked on a mission: to holistically improve the mental health resources of our community. With recent events both local and national, including the reverberations from the COVID-19 pandemic and heightened social issues, the need for robust mental health support is clearer than ever. Check out the Draft Mental Health Plan and give your feedback!

Why This Matters?

1. Addressing social injustices: The focus on mental health is a direct response to local and national social injustices.

2. Combatting the effects of the pandemic: The ongoing ripples of the COVID-19 pandemic have had profound impacts on collective mental well-being.

3. Rising cases of suicide and domestic violence: The rising incidents in our community emphasize the urgent need for improved mental health resources.

4. Prioritizing community well-being: For our community to thrive, comprehensive mental health support is essential.

Our Goals:

• Supporting Our Police: Enhance public safety services by ensuring that they are informed by a strong understanding of mental health issues. This means addressing complex situations with sensitivity and understanding.

• Trauma-Informed Support: Offer trauma-informed care to police officers, victims, and community members affected by crime or tragedy.

• Training City Staff: Equip city staff with the knowledge they need to better serve the community's mental health needs. This extends to city-sponsored events, services, and other initiatives.
