Edgewater City Council believes that our community will benefit from an intentional effort to develop a holistic and strategic plan related to mental health.
Our desire to improve the mental health of our community by increasing quality mental health resources within our community is in direct response to social injustices that have occurred locally and nationally, the COVID-19 pandemic, the increase of suicide and domestic violence, a collective prioritization of mental health, and an acknowledgment that to thrive individually and as a community we all need mental health resources.
Why Are We Doing This?
Responding to Issues: We want to help with problems like unfair treatment, the effects of COVID-19, and the rise in suicide and domestic violence.
Putting Mental Health First: We all agree that mental health is really important, both for each person and for our whole community.
What We Want to Do:
Helping the Police: We're supporting our police in understanding mental health better. This way, they can handle tough situations with care.
Supporting After Trauma: We want to help police, victims, and anyone affected by crime or tragedy in a way that understands the pain they've been through.
Training City Workers: Our city staff is learning about mental health, so they can consider it when planning events or services.
